Finding Peace in Luang Prabang

In the midst of busy work quite boring, I decided to take a few days off and flew alone to Luang Prabang in Laos. Located in the northern part through which the Mekong River, this city is one of UNESCO world heritage site and the only inhabited about 100 thousand people.

Finding Peace in Luang PrabangSetelah take two-hour flight from Bangkok, Thailand, I had arrived at Luang Prabang Airport. This is the smallest international airport I've ever singgahi. Serving flight from Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, the airport is not even equipped with a conveyor belt!

But immigration officials here are very friendly. He served with a smile and invited me in conversation. Apparently he was surprised because there is rarely a tourist Indonesia, let alone a woman, traveling alone.

Laos imposed arrival visa (visa on arrival) to most countries in the world, including ASEAN countries. Visitors from Indonesia will cost you $ 20 with an additional $ 1 if it does not take a photo.

Luang Prabang Airport is located in the northern part of town, just 20 minutes drive from the main road Sisavangvong. Available taxi or Tuktuk are ready to take you to the city of an entirely free from this bottleneck.

Along the road from the airport, I passed several Buddhist temples (wat) that dominates, as well as French-style building is typical of Luang Prabang.

On Jl. Sisavangvong, there is a range of accommodation with rates varying between $ 15 to $ 50, depending on the facility. On this road there are also many restaurants, grocery stores, Internet cafes, money changing agents, and travel agents. In addition to the official currency kip, Thai baht and U.S. dollar is the currency most commonly used.

I personally chose a more quiet place to stay outside the main street, with views overlooking the Mekong River. As a result, I can sit on the porch, sipping coffee while enjoying the scenery as well as Laos prepare to visit tourist attractions in Luang Prabang.

Kuang Xi Waterfall
Located about 29 km from downtown, this is the most beautiful tourist attraction immortalized, and must be visited. Terraced waterfall falls in the range of greenish pond. You can swim in some places shallow.

In the morning, the area near the pool is very slippery (especially in the rainy season). Use mountain sandals or even barefoot just as well. I am sure you will not be satisfied with a walk to take pictures.

Outside there is a waterfall complex of shops that sell souvenirs, handicrafts and snacks. When you travel in groups, you will be more frugal because it can divide the cost Tuktuk. Return trip back to the Kuang Xi would spend $ 14, but do not forget tawarlah earlier.

Ou Caves Park

Also called Buddha Cave, the cave is located about one hour overland journey, or about half an hour by boat through the Mekong River. This cave consists of two parts: top and bottom. Cave of the bottom of the driveway, while the upper cave at the top of the hill. You must climb to the top (quite steep) but the results are worth it. Because the dark up there, you should use a flashlight or torch.

Phou Si

Phou Si was in the middle of the city of Luang Prabang. This is a gently sloping hill where you can see the sights around town. Choose the time the sun rises or the sink so that the views that you get more beautiful. Admission price 20 000 kip.

Night market

The night market takes place every night along Jl. Sisavangvong up to the Phou Si. Here is available by-the start of the silk, the shirt, the traditional shirt, bed sheets, tablecloths, bags and so forth. Before buying, it helps ensure that once the goods are not made in Thailand. In order not to lose, check out the dollar or baht if you want to pay in the currency.

Monk alms ceremony

This ceremony is performed every morning at sunrise. At that time the villagers knelt down to give alms to the monks. If you'd like, you can participate and provide food or fruit. However, if you want to take photos, you should do from a distance so as not to disrupt the event.

Although only staying three nights in Luang Prabang, I feel the city is very impressive. The combination of natural beauty, rural atmosphere and culture embedded in the community very interesting.

Oh, almost forgot, the main meal daily population of Laos is sticky. Contrary to us, they eat sticky rice with side dishes for daily meals, while the rice just as a snack. Therefore do not be surprised if you served with sticky rice berlauk fish or chicken, yes!
